The Frog King

The Frog King Offbeat Theatre

I can’t tell you how much we loved creating this full length absurd romp through fairytale-land. Writing the play was an experience (in my head), but the crazy reality of being able to stage it in an empty building, on multiple sets, with a mobile audience and a semi-immersive feel to the whole production, was… unique and wonderful.

The storytellers are in trouble

The Frog King – Well… I have never seen anything like it. Totally wacky and brilliantly written.

MORE INFORMATION ON STAGING THE FROG KING HERE

We had a mostly adult cast (apart from a small princess with attitude), but anything goes here – a teenage cast would love the craziness this play embraces.

So … what happens? You really have to read it, but it’s based on the idea that fairytale-land is a stable dimension ONLY if the characters stay in their respective tales and don’t get messed about. So, should a rogue storyteller decide to make up alternative endings to well known (and loved) stories, what happens to the displaced characters… In our crazy tale a quest begins to try and put at least one story back in order. The rogue storyteller and his boss arrive in the story of The Frog Prince – where things have gone badly wrong. From this point on, things get far more complicated, confusing and, ultimately, changed.

Hansel and Gretel as you’ve never seen them (or would wish to again)

Embracing a few tales that shouldn’t be there, characters doing all the wrong things and a couple of storytellers completely seduced by love, power and cake, this is a more fun than should be allowed. In fact it isn’t allowed, but it happens anyway.

The Lost & Found (with lost things and people in it)

Is there a happy ending?
It rather depends on how you like your happiness served. It isn’t exactly what you might expect, given the tale they are trying to save. But, who says things can’t be different…
